Arlington National Cemetery
rests on land once confiscated from Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee by the federal government. The eternal flame at President John F. Kennedy's gravesite is here. The Marine Corps Memorial is also in Arlington.
In Alexandria, there's the Pope-Leighey House, designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Mount Vernon
is Gen. George Washington's one-time home and plantation.
The Arlington Festival of the Arts
is a relatively new event that is held every September in the Clarendon District of Arlington. It is held the week after the annual Alexandria Festival of the Arts. Artists and craftsmen display mixed media, jewelry, pottery, glass, paintings and more.
The Columbia Pike Blues Festival comes to Arlington every June. This event draws music lovers from the local community and from throughout the greater Washington area.
